Yoshiyuki Sadamoto,: Neon Genesis Evangelion

Neon Genesis Evangelion

Description

The human race nearly ended in 2000 A.D., when a top-secret encounter between an Antarctic expedition and an entity code-named "The Angel" triggered a global catastrophe. Now, in 2015, the Angels have returned, and Shinji Ikari, a fourteen year-old child of the new Earth, is summoned to the super-technological city of Tokyo-3 by his long-estranged father Gendo, and forced without warning to pilot the monstrous biomechanical weapon called "Evangelion" to match the fearsome power of the Angels. Beaten unconscious in his first sortie, only to have the Eva defeat the Angel on its own, Shinji tries to recover from an encounter he neither understands or remembers, and he is still disregarded by the father from whom he desperately seeks approval. Moving in with his commanding officer, Capt. Katsuragi, Shinji sets out to try and re-start a "normal" life in school. Neon Genesis Ecangelion Vol. 2 contains a special bonus interview with Yoshiyuki Sadamoto himself!

This first book from Chicago author Chris Ware is a pleasantly-decorated view at a lonely and emotionally-impaired "everyman" ("Jimmy Corrigan: The Smartest Kid on Earth"), who is provided, at age 36, the opportunity to meet his father for the first time. An improvisatory romance which gingerly deports itself between 1890's Chicago and 1980's small town Michigan, the reader is helped along by thousands of colored illustrations and diagrams, which, when read rapidly in sequence, provide a convincing illusion of life and movement. The bulk of the work is supported by fold-out instructions, an index, paper cut-outs, and a brief apology, all of Neon Genesis Evangelion free epub which concrete to form a rich portrait of a man stunted by a paralyzing fear of being disliked. The second half of the book includes a bonus of over 45 new images, including never-before-published storyboards, concept sketches, and production paintings, plus new characters, stories, and backstory notes from James Gurney's creative archives. The supplement begins with a cinematic treatment about a character named Blake Terrapin, who leads the resistance on the ground while Gideon takes to the air.
